We hope your summer has been fabulous and filled with music! We’re two weeks away from reopening and registration is in full swing. If you’re one of our wonderful students, we ask that you register now to avoid overwhelming Jody (our very hard working administrator) at the last minute. Lesson fees are due before your first lesson/class, and with approximately 300 students that’s a lot of payments to process!
All of our previous programs are continuing, and we are particularly excited about a few new ones:
🎶 Since 2017, Cantora Alegre has grown from 12 singers into a three-time Performing Arts BC festival winner, all while staying true to its mission of singing together in a supportive and joyful atmosphere.
We’re excited to welcome this vibrant treble choir to the Conservatory! Under the direction of Kathy Pereira, the choir explores a diverse repertoire from madrigals to traditional and contemporary works.
Interested in joining? Auditions will be held at our Open House on Monday, September 14 at 7:15 pm at the Conservatory. The choir is currently seeking soprano singers. Weekly rehearsals are Mondays from 7:15–9 pm.
🎻The Nechako Fiddlers (founded in 2005) is being revived! Starting Sept. 21st, the Nechako Fiddlers will meet under the direction of Roxi Dykstra on Mondays from 4-6pm (4-4:45 for junior players) and welcomes kids, teens and adults to learn traditional tunes by ear, along with arrangements specific to our group. Learn traditional tunes, and develop your ear and ensemble skils with arrangements in multiple parts that will allow every member to participate and perform together. Any age and playing level is welcome: and families are encouraged to participate together!! Instruments accepted include (but aren't necessarily limited to): (fiddle), viola, mandolin, flute, recorder, cello, bass, guitar, piano, possibly drums, banjo.... etc? REGISTER
🎸The hilarious Paul Harris is back with Rock Talk - another immersive music appreciation class. “Rock” music is now 70 years old. Where did it come from, where has it been, where is it now, and where is it going? This course takes us through Robert Johnson (the 20th century guitar one, not the 16th-century lute one), the Andrew Sisters, Elvis (Presley), Little Richard, the Beatles, Elvis (Costello), Tragically Hip, and countless others. Along the way we’ll look at how rock conventions, styles, and culture evolved, and why “rock” covers everyone from Richie Valens to Norwegian Death Metal to Donny and Marie. REGISTER
No musical knowledge is necessary (which is also true of many of the people we will study). Classes include extensive audio and visual aids. Runs for 8 weeks on Thursdays 6:45-7:45pm starting Oct. 1st

Come visit our booth and listen to Conservatory faculty and Cantora Allegre perform on stage at noon as well as playing with the PGSO. Our voice teacher, Danielle Klaponski, will be one of their featured soloists.

Oct. 30th-Nov. 1st the Conservatory will have a booth at Studio Fair. We’ll be looking for students interested in performing during the three day event. Please talk to your teacher if this is something you’d be interested in!
Nov. 1st Join Maggie Corbett, violin and Chiao-Rou Liu, piano for an afternoon performance featuring music by Mozart, Respighi, Amy Beach, and Paganini. Admission is $20 or pay-what-you-can at the door.
