Rock Talk

“Rock” music is now 70 years old. Where did it come from, where has it been, where is it now, and where is it going? This course takes us through Robert Johnson (the 20th century guitar one, not the 16th-century lute one), the Andrew Sisters, Elvis (Presley), Little Richard, the Beatles, Elvis (Costello), Tragically Hip, and countless others. Along the way we’ll look at how rock conventions, styles, and culture evolved, and why “rock” covers everyone from  Richie Valens to Norwegian Death Metal to Donny and Marie.

No musical knowledge is necessary (which is also true of many of the people we will study). Classes include extensive audio and visual aids.
