Join Our Teaching Team!

We are currently seeking a cello teacher, but we are happy to accept resumes for other instruments at any time.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with a passion for teaching all ages and levels of students. The ideal candidate will possess an accredited Bachelors of Music Degree (or will at the start date of the position) and/or ARCT and will have at least one year of teaching experience. Teachers should be willing to provide both in person and online lessons if needed. We teach to the standards of the Royal Conservatory of Music and encourage our students to perform in the district music festival each year and complete Conservatory level exams. Paid performance opportunities are available through our annual faculty concert series and community outreach programs. Financial compensation to support the candidate’s studio growth is provided.

The Prince George Conservatory of Music is a non-profit music school and the largest music educator in Northern British Columbia, serving Prince George, Vanderhoof, Quesnel, and the Robson Valley since 1984. The PGCM is located on the traditional unceded territory of the Lheidli T'enneh. We have been a chapter member of the British Columbia Association of Community Music Schools since 1987.

PGCM teachers are employees and as such WCB and liability insurance are covered. Teachers are paid $39.67/hour plus 4% holiday pay. Group lessons vary depending on the program. In addition to the 4% holiday pay teachers receive 2.5% in health benefits. The following bonuses are also available:

  • Free photocopying/printing for anything Conservatory-related
  • 33% reimbursement on sheet music
  • 30% reimbursement on technology related to teaching (up to $100 per year)
  • $250 per year for professional development as well as 50% coverage on additional training up to a maximum of $1000
  • 15% tuition discount for yourself and immediate family members
  • Paid performance opportunities (compensation varies)

Teachers choose their own schedule subject to the availability of studio space. New programs are welcome and are developed with input from the Artistic Director and Administrator. Other benefits of teaching at the Conservatory include:

  • Studio advertising
  • Paid student recitals and staff meetings
  • Collaboration with other teachers (performances and programming)
  • Administrative assistance - the Conservatory Administrator takes care of registration and payment from students
