Kayleigh Francis
Saxophone
Kayleigh is a saxophonist who grew up in Prince George, and has now returned to teach saxophone in the North. Along with teaching saxophone here at the Conservatory, she also teaches full time at Prince George Secondary School as well as being an active member of the Big Enuff Big Band and the Prince George Community Band. She has played in the UNBC Musical Productions shows the past two years, in both Cry Baby! The Musical (2024) and Anything Goes (2025). She is looking forward to participating in many more musical community events in the future.
Kayleigh holds a Bachelor of Music (Performance) from the University of Alberta and a Masters of Music (Performance) from the University of Victoria. She has studied under Dr. Allison Balcetis, Dr. William Street, Wendell Clanton, as well as attending workshops and masterclasses with the following saxophonists: Dr. Kenneth Tse, Dr. John Sampen, Dr. Marilyn Shrude, Dr. Gail Levinsky, Claude Delangle, Kyle Horch, Dr. Noa Even, Dr. Nathan Nabb, and many more.
Kayleigh has performed in numerous ensembles, including the University of Alberta Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Concert Band, the University of Alberta Symphony Orchestra as a soloist, the University of Victoria Wind Symphony, innumerable saxophone quartets and choirs, the Prince George Community Band, Funk Yeah!, In the Mood Big Band, Swiftsure Big Band, the Greater Victoria Concert Band, and many other solo and chamber groups. Kayleigh has also presented multiple recitals throughout her degrees, which include solo and chamber repertoire.
Kayleigh has attended multiple professional development seminars, such as the Frederick L. Hemke Saxophone Institute (summer 2022), the Region 9 North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA) conference (2019, 2022), and plans to attend the national NASA conference in 2024 in the United States.
Kayleigh studied classical saxophone during her post-secondary degrees, but also has experience in jazz and funk. She aims to create a solid theoretical and practical foundation for her students to build upon, no matter their field of interest. Kayleigh recognizes the importance of ergonomic playing for a developing saxophonist, so preventative measures will be recommended for any students that may be experiencing pain or discomfort while playing.
Outside of music, Kayleigh enjoys baking, cooking, hiking, swimming, watching movies, spending time with her family, dog and two cats, and playing video games.
