New Year - New Music at the PGCM!

Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful holiday season. We’re happy to be back making music at the Conservatory. Our staff and students had a very busy December between concerts, recitals and playing at local care/retirement homes.

We are incredibly grateful to all the people who have chosen to support non-profit music education by donating to the Conservatory. Thanks to all of our generous donors we have raised $18,900 so far this year! Money raised helps us ensure that music education is available to everyone regardless of income level. It also helps us put on fabulous pay-what-you-can concerts with our faculty and free concerts to seniors in care homes. Because of the Canada Post strike the CRA has extended the deadline for charitable giving to February 28th, 2025, so it’s not too late to make a contribution for 2024!

Speaking of pay-what-you-can Faculty Concerts, the first one of 2025 is coming up on Jan. 26th!

We’ve got a lot of programs which are starting soon (or have already started, but it’s not too late to join!):

Joy of Singing
Learn vocal techniques, explore different genres, from jazz to folk to classical, in this fun, low-pressure, non-performance group.
10 weeks, Tuesdays 7:00-8:00pm
8 weeks, Fridays 6:00-7:00pm

Sunrise
an exciting and innovative pre-school music & movement program. Stories, songs, and games guide children on their music journey with singing, rhythm and ear training.
10 weeks, Saturdays 10:00-10:45am OR 2:30-3:15pm

Moonbeams
is the entry point for older beginners into the Music for Young Children program and, although it is piano focused, includes singing, ear training, composition and music theory.
Time and day tbd - please contact us for more info!

PG Symphony Youth Orchestra
The youth orchestra had a fabulous kick off weekend including a workshop with Jeremy Berkman from the Turning Point Ensemble. It’s not too late to join, but students should get in touch asap if they’d like to take part in the Spring tour. The group could really use more cellists, so if you know any please tell them about the opportunity!
Every second Monday. Time depends on student’s level.

NEW! Overcoming Performance Anxiety (starting Jan. 14th)
Join Shoshanna Godber a self-proclaimed “Nervous Nelly,” as she shares the proven strategies she’s developed over 40 years of performing. While there’s no magic fix, Shoshanna’s practical, hands-on approach can help you build confidence and ease your performance anxiety.
8 weeks, Tuesdays 5:30-6:30pm

Adult Guitar Groups (starting Feb. 11th/12th)
Beginner: 8 classes 7:15-8:00pm Wednesdays
Intermediate: 8 classes 7:00-8:00pm Tuesdays

Important dates for Conservatory students:

Jan 12th Deadline to register for the PG and District Music Festival.

Jan 27th Semester 2 starts. Families who paid for the whole year/program or set up monthly recurring payments don’t need to take any action. If you paid for the first semester, then your semester 2 fees are now due. You do not need to re-register for semester 2!
